Laura Bylund

Laura Bylund is an Outdoor Education and Rope Rigging Professional from Southern California.  She is a lifelong rock climber, engaging in all types of climbing all over the world for over two decades.  She has been canyoneering since 2007 throughout the western region of the US and Hawaii.  Laura is a certified Single Pitch Instructor with the American Mountain Guides Association, a NFPA certified Rope Rescue Technician through Peak Rescue Institute, and a Course Provider for the Climbing Wall Instructor program with the Professional Climbing Instructors’ Association.  Laura works as a full-time manager for Adventure Programs at the University of California, Santa Barbara and is a lead guide/instructor and vertical stunt rigger for Alpine Training Services/ATS Filmworks of Los Angeles.  She has worked stunts and challenges on television shows such as The Amazing Race, The Biggest Loser, The Bachelor and The Bachelorette and has assisted with product research and development for companies such as Sterling Rope and Teva.  Laura is also a certified Wilderness First Responder and part time guide for Earthworks Climbing School of Ventura, CA.

Laura has a double Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and Communication from UCSB and has engaged in journalistic writing for a number of publications since 2003.  Her first time getting published, however, was in 1991 as a third grader... it was a poem in the school newsletter.

When not working, Laura can be found traveling the world, climbing and canyoneering, snow and skateboarding, drinking beer, dancing her booty off, writing, playing guitar and spending time with her family, friends, and 17-lb miniature pinscher, P-Nut.
